New Walthers Budd Passenger Carsgreenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread |
Just a quick note, I was at my local hobby shop the other day and was informed that Walthers is comming out with road specific HO scale Budd Streamlined passenger cars. They have announced a 10-6 sleeper, 48 seat coach and dining car, all available in ACL schemes. Hope to see more car types and road names(i.e. Seaboard Air Line) in the future.

The 10-6 will be patterned after UP cars. These cars had a full length letterboard.(not good for SAL)The 48 seat coach is patterned after a ATSF car, again not good for ACL,SAL nor FEC.I think the diner is also ATSF and might work with some work. However, they have no pilot models to show,so who really knows?

Not to be a spoil sport, but ACL Budd built straight coaches were 56 and 54 seats for cars built for ACL. Hostess/coaches usually had 46 seats, but also had a double bedroom compartment for the hostess. The ex-Chessie cars ACL bought were 36 coach seat-8 lounge seat cars. The FEC did have one 48 seat coach-lounge built by Budd in 1948 named Port Everglades. This unique car had a small lounge but no buffet at one end of the car. It was destroyed in the April 20, 1953 wreck at Dillon SC.
