Gene, to me, anything that you lik , rolled in a flour tortilla is a good burrito. Can you be a little more specific on what type of burrito?Eggs, nepolitos and cream cheese
Chicken suiza
chile verde
beef-n-bean
beans-n-cheese, chickpea and fish, steak and ice cream?
Do you need a tortilla from scratch recipe?

Dear Gene, You may want to check out the website cooks.com They have a great selection of homemade recipes.

Gene as asked it the above post do you need the tortilla receipe? I got a wooden hand tortilla press from my sister last year for christmas it is great but doesn't make the big ones but you just make more smaller ones. One of my favorites is for a breakfeast buro will try to give a receipe but will be hard as mine depend on what happens to be available when I make them.
A skillet full of fried potatoes one lb. of sausage cooked one onion fried one can of refried beans mix the above in a big skillet and add several eggs and scramble them as you heat it all together. After the eggs are cooked add about 12oz of salsa Roll this mixture in tortillas You can also add cheese if you want. Not really a receipe but tastes really good. As you may know I am single so I make these up and wrap and freeze. A lot better than store bought and cheaper too.

Yumm! Gail, I'll be over for breakfast in the morning! Hubby's gone elk hunting, so he'll never know! Just kidding. My sister in law makes those breakfast burritos every year for the annual camping trip, and everyone scarfs them up! Jan

I have a fancy recipe that takes all day or I have the 10 min variety. This what the boys and I like.Open a can of refried beans (or mash up last night's beans). Add onion, garlic, cumen and chili powder. Mix. Place a nice spoonful into a warm tortilla, add cheese and chilies. Fold and fry in hot oil. The beans warm and the cheese melts as the tortilla fries. Place on a bed of lettuce and serve with sour cream, olives and salsa. Great.

One recipe that never gets turned down at our house -Prepare or purchase refried beans. Cook and mash several sweet potatoes (aim for equal amounts beans and potatoes)
Layer beans and sweet potatoes onto your tortilla, then top with your favorite additions.
Spice with homemade or purchased mole sauce (mo'-lay), a chocolate- hot pepper based condiment. Spread it sparingly over the filling, then roll. lightly frying the rooled burrito in a pan is optional.
Although this sounds a little strange to gringo tastes, trust me, this is truly a major winner in the nutritiously dense yum-yums contest.

I have had lots of empty pans with this recipe and it couldn't be simpler. Brown hamburger meat 1-2 lbs drain and season with 1 pkg or taco mix (any kind) 1 can chili beans or you can use leftover cooked beans of any kind. 1 jar of taco bell mild salsa (Or your favorite) Mix well, roll up in flour tortillas place in large pan and top with cheese. These can be refrigerated for later and warmed up when ready. They are excellent.

flour tortillas: 4 cups flour 2 tbsp shortning 2 tsp baking powder 1 1/2 c warm water Mix dry ing. add water. form into balls and roll out. cook both sides tortilla on frying pan(no oil) till bubbles up and browns- like the store bought ones.Filling: Boil soaked pinto beans(or put in crock pot) til soft. Add cumin, garlic powder, salt, homemade salsa, coriander-blend in blender til smooth. I like to add rice to this and fill tortillas with bean mix, cheese, tabasco-heat to melt cheese. Top with fresh salsa, sour cream, and crunched up tortilla chips.
I make a whole bunch of beans, freeze half. We eat burritos for a week. Thats because we like them that much. They are easy to toss together and nuke.
Good luck, Tami in WI

Gene, Go to www.topsecretrecipes.com. They have the recipe for Taco Bells burito supreme. This is very good. My son and I tried it out. You can make them just like that or better. I like more sour cream and tomatoes. But they are just like Taco bell. Just a little tip though. Get the largest shell you can find. Good eating!

Here's my recipe for making refried beans which are really terrific:Fry up some chopt onions & garlic in olive oil. Fry'em good. Add some whole cumin seeds (like a tsp); stir a bit. Toss in 2 drained cans of black beans or kidney beans, or the equivalent freshly boiled beans. Fry & mash, adding water if needed. Add a tsp of dried thyme and sprinkle in some vinegar, like a couple tsps. Cayenne/chili powder/jalapenos optional. Salt to taste. Fry it all nicely.
Amazingly good. Disfrutes de sus alimentos! (That's Spanish for bon appetit...I learned it from a microwave programmed in Spanish!)
