What is a "subscription farm"? (misc)greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
A fella I work with was telling me that he heard about a way to make small farming operations profitable by using "Dutch style yeild subscription" techniques. He didn't have any true info though, just something he remembered in passing. Does anyone here know what this is?

Perhaps what your co-worker was referring to was Community Supported Agriculture. A market garden farmer contracts in advance with buyer and then grows it for them. I think most cases are a percentage of whatever is harvested once or twice a month. Search my book under Community. Should be the fourth hit or so. You can also search on Market Gardening.

Ken, Your "scary". Everything he was trying to say, you expained in the market gardening section. Your book reminds me of the man around here when I was growing up with all the tools in his coveralls. Need a screwdriver, wrench, pliers, he had it. Thanks for the great reference source.

I have a CSA farm....that stands for community supported agriculture. It has evolved into more of a subscription farm over the last 11 years. I have lots of good links on my website. In particular, go toFarming/Gardening/CSA/Permaculture Links http://www.homestead.com/peaceandcarrots/evenmore.html
