Sometimes students get bogged down in the mechanics of writing...How would you use the computer as a tool to encourage students to write creatively and imaginatively while also helping them learn correct grammar and vocabulary?

Students might have an easier time typing up all of their assignments on the computer. For some it may just be quicker, while for others it could be more effecient.

In programs, such as Word, it lets you know of a spelling and grammatical errors. Not only does this save the student time from looking up the words, but it also allows them to have choices to make their work sound better.

Because of these reasons, I do highly recommend computers as an assisting tool for all students.

I do agree with compters being used for writing, but, I also feel that it should be used at about third grade. The importatance of learning the basic skills should be tautght the old fashion way. The techonoly of computers is a great skill for it's spell checking, grammer and others aspects it can provide. I fell that once a student becomes familar with a computer it decreases their use of the basic skills that were once the most important skill to learn, " The three R's".

The whole idea of working on the computer is something kids find interesting. They see the computer as an adult tool,everywhere they go they see adults working on the computer such as the bank with mom even the secretary at school uses the computer. I think entering essay contests on-line to win prizes is a way to encourage kids to write, or to allow students to interact with pen pals on line is also a good idea. Charisse Lewis
