Techie Help needed - Web publishing

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I have created a basic web page using Microsoft Front Page. I am just about ready to upload it to the web. I have a wep page address provided to me by NTL. I have details of NTL's server to upload it to.

What happens next?

You hit the "publish" button.

You then have to enter the URL when prompted and any password.

That is assuming it's FP2000

No, this is just on Front Page Express. I don't think there is a "publish" button on there. Any more ideas/helpful web-sites around?

Try getting hold of an ftp programme like Leechftp - it's shareware. It's quite user friendly and you can drag and drop and it'll upload files to wherever you connect to.

De Builder,

You'll need to make sure your web page is called 'index.html' if it is only one page.

Then get hold of an FTP programme (un less Front page has a web up-load option?) Configure your FTP settings as per the details on your NTL account.

Once you've done this connect to the server and drop the index file (and any images/sound files you may have used on the page) into the main directory.

wonkey.

ooo! Any other suggestions for user-friendly FREE ftp programs? I've been using cuteFTP, but the version I've got on the laptop(downloaded in June) became limited to the point of nearly being un-useable once the free trial period expired. I need to be able to upload multiple files at once and rename files once they're on the server(i.e. index.htm which I always upload as something else so it can be checked before wiping out the current index.htm)

Back to the mound of paperwork. bleh.

I got free space with my netscape account and after ages trying various ftp programs to upload I gave up and got space on Tripod. They have a file manager program where you just copy files across - dead easy!
