!!!!! OTHER CDR MEDIA WONT WORK FOR MY VCD/DVD PLAYER, HELP!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Im having a problem making my VCDs. For quite awhile now, I've been burning using Prime Peripherals 80min CDr and they work good on my Sony VCD/DVD player. However, I ran out of them so I bought Memorex cause I couldnt find the same brand at CompUSA. For some reason they don't work with my VCD/DVD player. I tried my other medias and they all do the same thing. Im completely lost and hopeless cause I've already burned about 10 cdr's and they still wont work. I've had this problem before with my other vcds.

I guess my question is why wont my other cdr media work on my VCD player? I never had any errors stating that there was something wrong during the process but when I try to view it it doesnt work. Please help, if anyone out there knows what to do, either post a message or email me. I would appreciate it.

pe

On my sony, I have been using imation 74 min CDRs. I am not certain that 80 min CDRs will be recognized properly by a standalone DVD player. You may try 74 minutes of other brands and they may work. VCD standards are only for 74 minutes disks. Also your sony needs the dual discrete laser to read CDRs which was only available on the higher models last year. This year sony removed the dual laser feature on most of their DVD players.

Sony's are known to be picky. I'de find the ones that work and stick to them. Just be glad that you have ANY that work, most sony's don't take ANY media. You can also try cd-rw, they tend to be more compatible than cd-r.

I too had this problem with my Panasonic DVD player.Later I found that the dye in the CD-R makes thge difference. As you may know there are basically 3 dyes .Silver,Gold and azo dyes. So I used Verbatim DATAPLUS CD-RW and it works!!!! Also I heard that Princo CD-R works with every brand of DVD player out there. Hope this helps

The problem I had was indeed the CDR media that I was using. I wish I could have bought more of those Prime Perripheral CDRs.. So was I did was I used my Smart & Friendly CD-RW and they work great. Do you guys think that every CD-RW would work on this DVD player?

Incompatibilities with certain CD-R/CD-RW will always come up time and again with players like your Sony that only marginally recognize them. No matter how much Prime Peripherals you bought before it will inevitably run out. To preserve your sanity the best thing to do is ditch/sell/scratch that Sony one way or the other and get a Pioneer 333 or Philips or somesuch instead. These players ARE made to reliably read CD-R/CD-RW media.
