1) F100 Focus area control pad scrolling and 2) rear sync with dynalites

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Regarding rear curtain sync and my Dynalite strobes... connecting by standard sync cord, I popped a few frames and it seems to work just fine, despite all the official disclaimers. Does this cause harm to some part of the camera? May I continue to enjoy this capability without fear of damaging the F100?

And the way cool focus point control pad... when I set it to csm 6-1...

"Focus area selection changed to continuously in the same direction",

Should I expect the focus point to continually change (scroll, actually) if I hold one directional arrow on the pad down? Or do I need to keep tapping the same arrow, to make it scroll around (i.e. holding the left arrow of the round selector control pad: left, right, center, left, right, center, etc..) Mine needs to be tapped to shift continually in the same direction. If I hold it down, it only jumps to the next sensor frame, and needs another tap to move to the next sensor frame.

thank you... t

Here's a first, I'll answer my own question...I just got this reply from a Nikon tech rep:

To the best of my knowledge there should be no problem using your strobes on F100 I would however be careful to makes sure they are discharged fully before mounting or dismounting the PC cord to the camera. All electronic cameras have a slight chance of electric feedback firing a chip from a power pack so caution is the better part of valor. As for the scrolling all it does is open up the boxes so they can go across without having to go back you still need to tap them each time.

This means there's an error in the F100 Manual and the Magic Latern Guide for the F100, which both indicate constant pressure will yeild constant scrolling of the focus point indicators, and that second curtain sync won't work with standard pc connectors to studio strobes... t
