Techie advice needed...........again.greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread |
Someone's been messing about with this computer! You know how you have a scroll bar to the right of web pages and sometimes you have one at the bottom of the page? Well all of a sudden most pages I look at seem to have a bottom scroll bar, so I have to scroll across to read the end of every bloody sentence! Please does anyone know what's happened and how to fix it?

One more thing - not really important. Why is it that not all websites appear on the address bar after I've visited them? e.g. The Strawberry.

First of all it is the webmaster of each site that determines wether to scrollbars of not. Often this is set to auto, so its the screen resoulution that are important, so if you set your sreensize to large 800*600 you should have no problems. Its know as bad prgrammin if the user has to scroll sideways.Hope it good enough

Erm, didn't work. HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Have you not changed the resolution down to 600 x 480?. Most web pages fit into a 800 x 600 resolution without a sideways scrollbar. This page is set up for 800 x 600 and should not horizontaly scroll

Talking Techie stuff, I've been on (and off) for months trying to get a BBs set up. I am having problems working out where the various directories go. Is any one into Perl CGI Scripts that lives in the Tyneside area, who could come around to Riksplace and give him a hand?

RikIf you can tell me what version of what web server you're running, on what operating system, I can help you get a BB set up. If it's perl based then it'll never be as fast and reliable as this one, but you'll do OK with medium levels of traffic.
If you can grant me telnet access to your machine, I'll fix it for you.
Oo. Mail me on duncanreed@yahoo.com with any of that above info...too sensitive to be in the public domain.
Cheers
