Uh, maybe you should look for something hurricane resistant.

I live in south central VA., near to the NC border. One thing I would recommend is to find out if the area you're interested in has low level military planes flying overhead. This is a big problem not only at the beach but other parts of VA too. In northern VA the booms rock foundations and crack them in some cases. I want to also let you know that summers a very very hot and muggy with temps in the 90-100 range. Then there are the hurricane issues but those are not a big problem if you are sensible in your construction and preperation. Other than that VA. is a good state to live in, its a commonwealth so laws are a bit different from other states. They are phasing out personal property taxes and there are no school taxes to pay as in many sts. up north. Hope this helps.

Are you moving or just going for a visit? That would make a difference. We lived in the area for six years. Let me know and I'll fill you in.

Hello Stan, We live about 1 1/2 hours north of VA Beach. The winters are mild and the growing season long. Very hot and humid. I love the beach and it is so close (20 miles). We live on the lower Eastern Shore of Maryland, 2 miles from the VA border. There is alot of land here and room for growth. Alot of rural areas. Good Luck. Karole
