Why IS Connie here.....greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread |
Things are going so well I hesitate to get anything started but I would like to inquire about something. Some of you (2) have mentioned that you don't know why Connie is here. That is a strange thing to ask, unless of course, this is a closed list for certain people only. I have known of closed type Bible discussion lists and I often wonder if God smiles on such a group on a list (duh.) Of course He doesn't smile.Connie may someday change her mind about some things and then again she may not. But unless this is a closed list for only members associated with the cc/coc then I am at a loss as to why she was asked that question.

Nelta....The question was asked ONLY in response to Connie's constantly complaining about being confronted in some of her beliefs, which traditionally have not been the beliefs of the Christian Church.
I have tried the sweet way in the beginning.....Benjamin tries the sweet way all the time (although he got a little impatient recently).....and others have tried to no avail.
When she is questioned/confronted....or whatever you want to call it.....she calls "foul" and complains of lack of edification, etc.
Therefore, to me, the logical question is....."why not find a forum more in tune with your beliefs??" I mean, the question was asked out of genuine concern.
I have no right to go on a Baptist forum, tell them what I believe, and then not expect to get riddled with questions.
Again, you are right. It is not and never should be a closed forum.
The purpose of this forum is the open exchange/debate/discussion of ideas. Some on this board are thinking it's a love fest board!!
Funny ain't it Nelta?? As time goes on......we get along better. Maybe.....it's because neither of us feel threatened by each others often strongly stated positions.
Well....I better stop or else people will start to thinking I'm warming up to you or something!:):)

Robin....Thanks! I take that as a compliment.
Someone has to keep the Restoration movement from sliding further to the left.

John.....I've been looking for people who remember another one of Rod Serling's shows....."Night Gallery".....do you remember it??

Danny, I like it better when you and I warm up to each other and get along.Nelta

Danny,"love fest board".... we don't have to worry about that happening when we have Big Dogs on the Porch beating up on the Little Dogs and trying to see who is Top Dog!! :-)

Thank you for putting that so aptly Danny (your answer to Nelta's original question).Connie does know pretty much what we believe now, especially concerning salvation which has been discussed many times over. She can not expect that we would not say anything about it.
Now Connie and all, be honest. If I came in here saying I could have eternal life through John Doe, would you not say something? If I said to you that I believe in God, but do not believe in Jesus and that faith in God saved me, would you not say something? And if after several months had passed my beliefs remained the same, and because of that belief everything else I believed was tainted by that belief, would you not be frustrated. Even if you had started out in a gentle, and kind manner, would you not eventually change your tactics? Wouldn't you think I was a little thickheaded, and maybe in need of some sterner language?
Robin, no one that I know of is trying to see who is "Top Dog". Danny, E. Lee, others and myself know who is "Top Dog"that is E. Lee...just kidding. "Truth" is "The Top Dog". And we don't stay on the porch, falsehood needs to be met head on where ever it happens to be.

This is getting really scary ... not only have Nelta and Danny been nice to each other lately, but they have even agreed with each other numerous times ... and (gasp!) complimented each other![looking for Rod Serling in the wings]
Is this the Christian Forum or the Twilight Zone?

Danny,'The Christian Church' is a very generic title, and refers to many people who are not in your movement.
Some people in the RM movement, who have the label 'Christian church' on the door believe that they are not hte only Christians but Christians only.

Yes, I remember it .... it was great when it first started, as an anthology series, but then they ruined it by making it a weekly psychic-fest revolving around that one guy (who's name escapes me).

Gary Collins was his name.

LinkI don't see "Christian Church" as a generic title but rather a specific title. As far as being a movement, I do in fact believe that we are the only christians when (WE) refers to the body of Christ.A name placed over the door, on the lawn, etc. plays no role in the salvation of anyone. I hope you do not think that we feel the building in which we meet is anything other than a building.
I do not doubt that you feel that anyone that has obeyed the biblical plan of salvation is a christian and will remain so as long as they are faithful where ever they assemble.
Speaking for myself and probably a lot of others here, I agree there are christians that meet in different buildings, out in the open and many other places. These are those persons that have repented and been immersed into Christ for the forgiveness of their sins.
Link,Perhaps you have stated before but I do not recall, Do you believe that both repentence and immersion for the forgiveness of sins is necessary for salvation? I ask this to help me understand more fully where you are coming from with some of your post.
