apple types Part 2

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Thank you to everybody for your responses to my previous question. I made a spreadsheet of everyone's suggestions so I will no longer be confused when I go to the orchard.

Three things came to mind while looking at the answers to my other question:

Is a Yellow Delicious same as Golden Delicious same as Yellow Transparent?

What is an apple flappin?

Please post the recipe for apple crumb pie.

Thank you again.

Although some people disagree with me, there is a difference between yellow delicous and golden delicious. Many years ago, there was a yellow delicious and no golden delicious. Yellow delicious was just an eating apple and shaped very similar to the red delicious. Golden delicious came along and it was a rounder in shape and very nice for cooking. Some folks say they are the same, I do not. Yellow transparent is a very nice cooking apple and spendid for sauce. It is also an early apple. When I was growing up, it was the first tree in the orchard to ripen. Sauce was yellow as was the apple when it ripened. Hope I helped you rather then confuled you.

Apple Flappins are apple slices dipped in batter then deep fat fried. You can use any pancake batter. Granny Smith apples are good for these. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and cinnamon if you please. T
