If you could only hear one sound for the rest of your life, what would it be?Mine would be the sound of typing... not on a typewriter, but on a keyboard. I love it.
I know, I know... I'm strange.

It'd have to be rain for me. Not pounding rain, but just like a summer drizzle type of rain.

mine: honestly i love our lady peace so much I could listen to them forever. but i dont know.. does that really count as one sound?
-- Anonymous, August 21, 2000
I love the sound of the keyboard too... I like the clicks. However, I can't imagine living my life without hearing Hanson. Laugh as you all may, I need to hear them! :-)

er. music. prettie music. yesyes.

It's hard to imagine hearing only one sound for the rest of my life. I expect that I'd soon become tired of it, even if it was my most favorite sound. But since this is a hypothetical question, here's my answer: I think it's a tie between bird song and a cat's purr. I find both extremely soothing.

Mine would be the voice and accent of one of my very close friends. No matter what he says, it never gets old. So I could just like, listen to him forever.Sorry, that's all I could come up with.

I'm with Noelle...rain pattering on a roof. Especially when I'm sleeping, and know that I GET to sleep for at least a while longer...ah the joy =PHow about sounds you WOULDN'T want to hear, everyone? I think for me, the top one is the microwave -- it would totally push me over the edge! We have one of those microwaves that if you don't take out the item (or at least open the door) about five seconds after it's done, it makes this annoying beeping sound again. Then, if the item's STILL there, it goes through the same ordeal again about 15 seconds later. I know the Microwave People were thinking, "Gee, this is great! We're gonna be so helpful!" but quite frankly, they're making me crazy -- haven't they ever considered that maybe some people are too freakin' lazy to take stuff out immediately, not forgetful?! ARGH...Ok, I'll get off my soapbox =)

Silence. Yes, the sound I'd choose to be stuck with forever would be silence. Why? Because at least I could sleep through it. Any other noise would get so very annoying after a while. Although you could get used to anything, I suppose. If anyone has ever suffered with tinnitus, then you certainly know the value of silence!I adore the sound of computer keys clicking softly under a set of skilled typing hands though, so that would be a consideration...

I'd go with silence as well.. there are no sounds I'd really want to hear forever, I'd rather just be completely deaf. And actually, I wouldn't mind being deaf that much (as far as losing senses, go, anyway) since I don't like music. Anyway, yes. But if we're being completely hypothetical, I'd go with the sound of my late cat's purr. It's weird, because purring sometimes makes my eyes water. But just for the first few moments. Strangest thing. A

yeah, I say nice music. Either that, or wind roaring round the house when you're warm inside. Yes.
-- Anonymous, August 21, 2000
Um, correct me if I'm wrong but is silence really a sound?
-- Anonymous, August 21, 2000
I think silence is the absence of sound. Like white is the absence of color, or something. I couldn't stand silence for the rest of my life. I would go completely mad.
-- Anonymous, August 21, 2000
Actually, the color white is all the colors mixed into one, black is the absence of color. So if we were to use the same criteria for the color white for the sound of silence, then silence would be all the sounds in the world mixed into one, which would, in fact qualify as a sound in my book. But then the next question is what would black be, sound-wise?
-- Anonymous, August 21, 2000
not to nitpick but actually black is all the colors mixed together. White is all the colors of light mixed together.. but whatever..I think i would want to hear a cat's purr. Yes.
-- Anonymous, August 21, 2000
Black would be silence. White would be noise. Like white noise. Ever hear of black noise? Hell no.-dan
-- Anonymous, August 21, 2000
Whoa, where the hell have I been? I thought brown was all the colors mixed together. (?)
-- Anonymous, August 22, 2000
I love the sound of the keys too... but.. I think I would want to hear my boyfriend's voice. He has the sexiest voice, I couldn't live without it.

Laughter.
-- Anonymous, August 23, 2000
I love the sound of rain hitting a window air conditioner system.
-- Anonymous, August 23, 2000
the ocean.
-- Anonymous, August 23, 2000
Someone talking dirty to me, or growling... even though it's a turn on, it wouldn't be after hearing it all day... but still... I like it.
-- Anonymous, August 23, 2000
How about narrowing down this "music" answer? Just saying that you would listen to music isn't enough, is it? I mean, it's not just one sound. For me, I think I would choose to hear solo cello music (like Bach's solo cello suites).
OK, I'm going to stop now before I become even more of an obnoxious music-geek.

the sound of a boxcutter opening....ahhh, the power
-- Anonymous, August 25, 2000
the hospital sound. not the ER ones, the kind from a real-life hospital, kinda around dawn, not much noise, not much bustle, a little bit of talkin, doctor's footsteps in the hall, the beep of the heart monitoring machine, someone coming in and re-adjusting your pillow, your sheets, the sound of water splashing into the sink as a nurse washes her hands.. a familiar, pleasant sound.
-- Anonymous, August 26, 2000
Sound I would want to hear: the ocean
Sound I would not want to hear: an alarm clock
-- Anonymous, August 26, 2000
The sounds of a hospital are *pleasant* for you? I hate hospitals.
-- Anonymous, August 28, 2000
The sound of a boxcutter opening. That is, by far, the coolest sound in the world.
