how badly does the ibm microdrive drain batteries?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread |
Does anyone have a sense of how the IBM Microdrive compares to a CompactFlash card in terms of battery power consumption?

The IBM Microdrive uses batteries much faster than a compact flash card. The instruction book for the Cascio QV3000 which comes with a microdrive states that some brands of AA akaline batteries may go dead almost imediatly. NiiMH batteries are recomended.

I've had my QV-3000 for a month now and have been pleasantly surprised by battery usage. With a spare set of NiMH in my pocket I cango for an all day shoot without worry. Mind you, I don't keep the camera on needlessly. This means off until composition, 6 + shoots at different settings then off while I setup for the next round.

Hmmm. Two very different schools of thought here! Oh well, I've gone ahead and ordered one (I found some other postings on this board that said the drive took up much less power than zoom, lcd, etc.), and am off to Europe for 2 months with my Canon S20 and the new drive. Full report in the fall...
