AC adapters for the Olympus D-360L

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I bought an Olympus D-360L. The manual says that i should only use an olympus ac adapter, but it was too expensive(US$50) and I would like to know what are the specs so that I could find another one. I have 2 ac adapers here at home, mabe they could do the job, but im not sure. Thanks! Ronaldo

Hi Ronaldo

I can tell you my story of my ac-adaptor-test.

I just had second-hand bought my D-600 for 15 minutes, when I tried to plug in my trusted ac-adaptor that worked flawlessly on my old casio digicam. I set it to 6 V as indicated on the bottom of the camera. I used the polarity indicated beside the ac-plug and tried to turn on the camera (it did work with batteries before).

The camera didn't react. I remembered from my casio, that the original voltage indicated on it's cover wasn't enough to get it working, so I tried the same with my new olympus, I gradually increased the Voltage and nothing else happened. I also checked the other polarities and still nothing happened and I was already *quite* nervous and sweaty.

End of story is: The camera did not react to any button presses, even after I replaced the batteries. Fortunately Olympus offered a 32 MB Smartmedia Card upgrade program for about 130,-DM/65$ (including a full function check) and I sent it in to them. The upgrade was done and when I got the (same) camera back, it was working again. Later I found out that there was a reset button in the Smartmedia Cardslot, that might have unlocked my camera again, but at that time I thought i'd blasted a fuse. I swore an oath on this camera to never use any non-olympus stuff (especially adaptor) on it again.

(Well, later I bought a Sanmedia 32 MB card and a Feyia USB Card Adapter, duh, but they still do work :-))

I just want to warn you: Do a thorough web search for Olympus AC Adaptor Specs before trying anything. Reading the web AFTER my mistake revealed that there were several traps: - Different voltage for adaptor than for battery volage, - different sized plugs - different polarities from camera model to camera model...

But I also read about people using different-brand adaptors. So it can be done.... but be informed first :)

Cu Marcus
