Die the 2000 General Conference pass a law making it manadatory for pastors to retire at the age of 75?

Answers

If you don't retire at seventy-five, what age should a Pastor/Presiding Elder retire? I do not believe that we will all be like Rev. Dr. William freeman...retiring at ninety-five. I believe Dr. Freeman will hold that record until Jesus comes. May be I need to pose a question to find out who the oldest active Pastor/Presiding Elder is?

Yes, all itinerant ministers must retire at age 75 beginning with conference year 2004 unless special provision is provided by the Annual Conference. I think that this should be effective immediately and the special provisions removed. We must retire our aging ministers so that young ministers can see a clear path of upward mobility. Otherwise, we will lose our best and brightest ministers to other Methodist connections whtih such Upward Mobility. I don't know about your conference, but in NE Texas, the average age of our ministers is well over 50.
