red-eye reduction - Photoshop 5.5 script

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I encounter a bit of difficulty in obtaining acceptable an reproducable results with red-eye elimination, under Photoshop 5.5 (digital pictures taken with my Nikon 990). Does anyone know a script (or a quick description of actions to be taken) in order to achieve this rapidly. Thanks Daniel

I don't know of any script; I think you're in for good ole fashioned digital elbow grease via color correction, curve manipulations, and careful selections.

The Nikon 990 CP model has been widely publicized as being poor for red eye reduction, mainly because the embedded flash is too close to the lens. I haven't heard of any hardware fix via a filter set that can solve this problem, but you might want to check with Nikon to see if they have any good solutions. Considering the number of complaints they MUST be getting, I would hope they're working on something.

In Photoshop select the eye area-add a layer and work at eliminating the red-eye on this new layer. When you find the eyes are corrected simply flatten the image and save in your favorite format.

Red-eye removal is no problem. Circle the eyes with the Lasso tool, then select Replace Color, pick out the red eye, and replace it with black. Job Done. Tick. (If you don't limit it to the eye region, that little red party dress is gonna have wine stains all over it!)
