In 1890, on the Athens branch of the Georgia Railroad line between August and Atlanta were there two stations named Maney's or Marey's and Stephens?

In an 1893 Georgia R.R. timetable the two stations about which you enquired are shown as Maxey's (milepost 12.4) and Stephen's (mp 15.5), the milepost numbering being from Union Point. In the years around 1900 most railroads dropped the apostrophe or both apostrophe and "s" from station names for simplfacation. Stations with "'s" after the name usually were named for a land owner or a country store owner where the station was established, if at a place where there wasn't already a community. A search of old timetables showed that Maxey's, at least was already a station in the 1860's.

According to Georgia Railroad Time Table No. 2 (effective March 2, 1952), the Athens Division had stations at Stephens and Maxeys.
