Black and Blue Berries

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Now that black raspberries are mostly gone here it's time for black berries and blue berries. I've picked 3 gallons of blueberries this past week and $5.00 a gallon. They are so good and good sized. Blackberries are just now getting ripe, I forage for these. Does anyone have any relly good and intersting rcipes. Ilike to try something different, but a good traditional rec. is fine too. Thanks

My families favorite recipies for berries are: jams, pancakes, cobblers, and cheesecake toppings. For the toppings (which can be used to cover ice cream, cereal, etc.) Boil frozen berries without water (this is why they need to be frozen) constantly stirring so they don't stick to the bottom of the pan. Add a sprinkling of sugar to taste, and about 1/4 Cup cornstarch per pint of frozen berries. Once it starts to set up it only takes about 30 to 60 seconds to get to the proper thickness, so you really have to watch it carefully.

The berry we use the most this way is wild huckleberries. They are a relative of the blueberry. annette

I've been making protein shakes for my daughter and myself with blueberries or strawberries. They are really good (the berries are frozen, so what we end up with is something she thinks is ice cream!!).

Want wine recipes? Otherwise, just pies ( I LOVE pies), and what you probably already have. But isn't this a great time of year. We are just starting to harvest, but today I almost couldn't stop myself from eating peas in the garden! Raw peas in the garden are as good as a (fill in your own here!), and probably better! GL!
