I'm finally going to get to spend a couple of weeks on my land in September! I need to plan my time well, as I wanted to check on septic/well prices, mobilehomes, jobs, etc as well as plant some trees on my very bare patch! Desperately need suggestions as to what fruit and shade trees are good for the florida panhandle (zone 8) Will apricots grow? Hazelnuts? Peaches? Come on southerners! Give me an earful!! .......and thanks in advance :) Sue

It has been known for seedlings in your situation to be stolen once you leave again. Not much you can do about it, except try to make friends with the new neighbours; and not label the seedlings - keep a map instead.

Hi,I grew up in NW Florida. We planted pecans, pears, peaches, apples, mayhaws, just to name a few. Be sure you select the correct Zone_8 stock. Peaches may or may not work, since it doesn't always get cold enough for them to set well.

Not too many of them around anymore.

Hi! We are in northern Alabama so I may not be of much help! You might want to check with the county agent in the area your land is to see what other folks have a lot of success with. We have apple and pear trees here; grapes and muscadine grapes; and a big garden with just about everything in it.I used to live in Plant City Florida which is near Tampa and it snowed in Tampa for the first time in 100 years while I lived there....so weather anywhere can be unpredictable!!! Good luck!!!!
