Film will not load...HELP!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Simply put, the film will not catch in my N90. I've tried turning it off and on multiple times, on different days, installed new batteries...but still no luck. The AF lens tries to focus, the "EE" flashes (duh, it thinks there is no film in the camera- duh, it won't load!), and that's all that happens. Any ideas? Anyone know how to load the camera manually, is there an overide to the power loading mechanism???

Selima, something very similar happened to a friend's F70. It was my fault actually; I did the usual trick of opening the camera's back just before it finished rewinding in order to leave the film tail out, but in the process, the camera was fooled into thinking that there's still film in the film compartment and refused to load a new one (the camera behaved similar to yours--tried to focus while flashing 'EE' in the LCD) . The problem was solved by pressing the two film rewinding button and let the camera finish the rewinding process. Try it and see if it'll solve your problem. Cheers.

Yikes! Sorry about the double post. Unintentional.

Some Nikons (at least, my F90 and F100) need very precise film loading. The automatic loading doesn't start if you don't have the film leader parallel to the rails and the end at the red mark. The only remedy is to re-open the back and place the leader again more carefully. One other reason can be the film canister not being fully inserted to its axle.

My 801s (N8008s) got its little electronic brain in a pickle once. It cured itself after the batteries were removed for about 10 mins and then re-inserted.

Selima, as someone said try to rewind, and position the film more close to the mark. if that doesnt help here are some thoughts 1. is the film in a normal cassette? if its a reloadble (usualy black, and w/o DX coding) and the ISO is set to DX the camera wont load. 2. check that all te pins that inform the camera that its closed are in there place and work. 3. take it to A Nikon dealer near you and have him/her check it out.
