upgrading a flashdisk adaptergreenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread |
I am using a PDR 4 camera and trying to upgrade both my camera and the adapter. I am having trouble doing this as I don't know which disk to use to try to copy the upgrade file..(neither worked) despite my following the instructions implicitlyALSO IS RECORD MOVING THE DIAL AS IF TO TAKE A PICTURE????
this questin follows response I'm sorry if I'm being obtuse, but just which device are you trying to upgrade? The flashpath adapter itself or a camera? Or both? Could you clearly state for me just which units and camera you have? PDR-FLP1? PDR-FLP2? PDR-M4, PDR-M5?
It almost sounds as though you have a FLP1 and couldn't copy a firmware upgrade for the camera to it because you were trying to use a 64MB card which won't work in a FLP1? Then you tried copying the firmware upgrade to an 8MB card, but had trouble installing the update on the camera?(a PDR-M4?) If so, it may have been that you merely pressed the display button and then turned the dial to record mode? What they mean(why didn't they SAY IT, then?) is that you should press and HOLD the display button down while turning the dial to record... :-) It's poorly written, they should have said, "Hold the display button down while switching the mode dial to record..." They did say to press and hold the display buttton in the PDR-M5 upgrade instructions. Nobody's PurRfeCKt... :-)
There are two different flashpath adapter upgrades: a 32MB upgrade for the PDR-FLP1 and a 128MB upgrade for the PDR-FLP2. If you have a PDR-FLP1, a 64Mb card won't work in it even if you do upgrade it.
If you're still having trouble, let me know which model you want to upgrade and I'll try to walk you through it. It's really not very complicated, but you must do it step by step. I upgraded my Pdr-M5 with no trouble, but you do have to VERY carefully follow the instructions. It's essential at one point that you pull the adapter plug out rather than merely shutting off the camera, for instance. It's also essential that you begin the process by removing the battery from the camera and use the adaptor.
Feel free to email me directly if you like and I'll see what I can do to help, or just reply here if you're still having trouble.
