Nubian kid with lumpsgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I just had a yearling doe kid with her first kid. The little kid seems healthy, bouncy and eating well at 4 days and from birth but has lumps on both sides under her jaw on her neck. Has anyone had anything like this happen. Thanks much in advance for all advice or information. Nancy

could the lumps be glands? ours have them, you can remove them. did you see your doe at birth or the buck? they may have had them and they were removed.

We had this discussion a while back, wattles that didn't come down, salivary cysts, iodine goiter, at the very least you could feed them kelp, rich in iodine and see if the enlargement goes away. Can't remember what else everyone thought these were. Vicki

Actually they look like they might be glands. One is about an inch across and the other a little smaller. They seem to be getting smaller since birth. Think this sounds like glands? Do you know anywhere I could find out more about this? Thanks a lot. Nancy

Seems to me that I remember these in very young kids; I wondered if they were a response to all the suckling that they do. Maybe enlarged muscles? If I remember, they eventually went away, and the critters none the worse for the wear.

I had Nubian-Boer kids last year with lumps under their jaw, one of them quite large. My vet doesn't know lots about goats, but I finally found mention of it in a British book. Seems Nubians are prone to salivary cysts, but nothing needs to be done unless they grow very large. They seemed to get smaller over time, and now are barely noticeable.
