I was surfing the net a couple of weeks ago, when I found mention of a sheep breed I've never heard of before. At first I thought it was another name for the Texel breed (same country of origin), but it's not. The breed is called Beltex, & while doing a search for more info, I only found one site (www.beltex.co.uk) a registry. This site has some impressive pictures but little info on size, weight, wool, etc... While the Texel has extreme muscleing, the Beltex is double muscled. I e-mailed for info & just got it today, but haven't been able to look at it. It will be a while before I can because of a huge garage sale this weekend (moved from bigger house to smaller house). However, I will be giveing a copy to the OK State University (www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds) for their library. Any comments welcome.

Hello, I have not heard of that one either. But there are many sheep breeds that will never be seen in the US, since they were never imported here.

Beltex=Belgian Texel.

Absolutely awesome muscling. Look like overhead hogs, but it's all meat. Worth looking at, like Niagara Falls or Dolly Parton. Wonders of the (almost) natural world. Don't know anything about farming them. Love to meat one on a spit, though.
