Danny... I just had a day you would love. I rose about 4:30 am to go to a new attenders house (for he invited me to go on his job with him), then we drove to a farm... arriving by 6:30 am. The farmer showed us three cows for us to work on. The new church attender named Martin took out a 30/30 rifle with a scope on it and shot two out of three cows. Then he proceeded to slice the cow's throats to bleed them, then he began to bucher the cows. About an hour later he asked if I would like to shoot the third, so I said "sure". I took the 30/30 and held it firm against my arm socket, thus I was careful not to let it kick on me, then I aimed for the forehead between the eyes and shot. At first I was dazed and then my head began to hurt, swell and bleed. I did not hold the barel firm enough, thus when I fired... the gun kicked up instead of back- thus raming the scope into my forehead. Martin, then quickly grabed the rifle and shot the cow in the head and she went down... my shot went into the head and out the eye. After, the third died then we proceeded to bucher that cow. We then transported the three carcasses to the local meat locker for processing. What a day! We were done around 11:30 am and I feel like I was shot in the head... but I walked away with a truck load of sermon material... some things you just do not get in book.
