Okay, who is gardening in Arizona? I am planning on a move from Florida to Flagstaff at the end of the summer and would like an idea of what I will need to do to get my garden ready for Spring there. I have tried to contact the County Extension office there, but, I haven't had a reply. Any help would be great! Thanks! Sissy

sissy- my sister lives in flagstaff and i will ask her help if you get no other response. a good place to start looking for real info would be sunset magazine. they have an incredible zone map and give advice for each area in the southwest. although i garden in arizona, their (flagstaff) zone is so completly different from mine that my info would be of no help. she was having 28 degree weather up until just a few weeks ago and it barely got that cold here (phoenix area) in december! lauren- coping (barely) with +110 degrees

Sorry, I can't really help either, I live in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Every part of AZ are very different when it comes to gardening. In my opinion though, gardening is pretty much the same all over. Give it lots of compost, enough water, enough sun and (here) enough shade, and it will grow. As it gets very hot here and way less humidity that Florida, you will probably want to water more in the summer and I only plant where my vegetables will have shade by 2:00 p.m. and plant cool weather crops by Feb. Flagstaff I don't think can grow citrus because it's colder in the winter than here, but you will be able to grow the deciduous fruit that we cannot. The Sunset Western Garden Book is very helpful and according to it, Flagstaff is zone #1, with barely to the east being zone #2. When you get there the local nurseries should be helpful and should be able to put you in touch with the local Master Gardeners. Good Luck, Jill

Thank you both for your help! I did finally get a site for the Cooperate Extension office last night and sent them an inquiry. I appreciate knowing what zone it is anyway! I sure do like this forum!!
