Need Brown Leghorn Rooster -Southern Me or NHgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I've recently become enamored of brown leghorns, a far cry from the flighty white leghorns. I have some pullets and no rooster. Don't want to order a bunch of birds to get one. I'll pay or trade (I have a kazillion good things to trade - what do you need?). Thanks

Brad,Gosh I wish I could help you but I only have a single Danish Brown Leghorn rooster. We had females but got rid of them because we really found them flighty and not at all as good layers as our white leghorn. I can't say enough good things about the rooster though. I actually loaned him to a girlfriend who had a petting zoo (as part of her Dairy Farm Tours). He was the nicest rooster she could find, he would fly out of her coop and strut around all of the school children showing off and then fly back in. When we moved I asked for him back and is still serving us well at our homestead here in the Ozarks.
We also have one other rooster, a Buff Orpington, he was nice until he reached a year. Last week he and I had a big battle and he is destined for the pot.
I know you and I don't agree on the white leghorns (I've never had a rooster only hens), but I think you'll like the brown roosters, classic beauty, great crow, good protection and a genuine nice guys!
