We are wanting to help some of our hearing impaired folks by purchasing some type of amplification system.Does anyone have any experience with these?? Can you recommend a company or a model?? How does it work??
Any help would be appreciated to turn us in to the right direction.

Duane....I must say....this is one time your "humor" is not appreciated as this is a serious concern for people, especially in their elderly years, who are struggling to hear what is going on in the service.
My preaching is not the problem. Anyone who has ever heard me preach...knows....I don't need a microphone.
However, they have problems hearing the prayer requests, the comuunion medidations, the prayers, etc.
I hope someone takes this request seriously.

Thanks Mark.....The one thing that I have heard about is individual FM units that people pick up upon entering the service. It has an ear piece.....they tune into the channel that you are using and are able to pick up the service that way.
Does anyone have any familiarity with this type of system??
Thanks

Dear Danny,
Turn up your microphone.

Danny,Harry might know of a company to contact since he & his Mom have both recently gotten new "aids". He might could put you in touch with the manufacturer to see if they offer products like you seek.

Oh Danny,Talk to Scott Sheridan too, as they are starting a spanish translation ministry for services. I'm sure what they use would have applications for your needs as well.

I attended a church once where they had boxes in the back pews tied into the amp system, with headphones, that the hearing impaired could use.And now, once more, for the hearing impaired ...

(Apologies to Garrett Morris.)

Incidentally, we have several ppl in our church who are hearing impaired, including my mother-in-law, so any information you find out I would be interested in myself. =)

Point taken, Danny. But you must admit, just because one uses humor, it does not logically follow that he regards the original issue to be non- important.
I liked Mr. Wilson's response. He responded with a serious suggestion, and he still used humor. The "Garrett Morris" reference was a hoot, and ages some of us as well.
I also knew that by opening up the thread with one of my classic (and brilliant) barbs, it would attract more interest to your plight, more sympathy to your situation, and thus, a better response from the esteemed members of this distinguished panel of posters.
Ah, yes, it was all done in the self effacing spirit of cooperation for which I am so well known.

This is NOT funny! I am partially deaf!At our church, Danny, we have hearing aids which those of us who are a LITTLE deaf, ~ and haven't yet been sensible enough to go get a hearing aid ~ can pick up right before the service, in a small room adjacent to the sanctuary, where they supervise the service electronically. I think there are 10 or 12 units.
There are so many tasks I want to accomplish while at church and so many people I want to see that I may not have time to check on the system this Sunday, but will eventually, if I remember.
May God richly bless you on this beautiful day! And this isn't said just to appear seriously spititual, as Duane suggested).
And Happy Mother's Day to Jenny and may you have great fellowship at your 'hog hunt'.

No, no, no!!!Connie was chiding HERSELF for not doing the sensible thing and getting a hearing aid. I was NOT being critical of anyone. I was trying to join in on the lightness.
I was sincerely trying to be sympathetic, in a light way, to people who are hard-of-hearing, as I also am.

Oh, ok. Sorry.Never mind!
I will yell (I mean tell) my hard of hearing friend the real skinny.

Apologetic answer:Accepted!

By the way, Duane, I used to indulge in a lot of self-deprecating humor, but I've sort of let up on myself a little, since there are so many critics here who are handling that portion of my education!(And I'm concerned that they might too readliy agree).

Skinny? Skinny? Did I hear that correctly? Now THAT'S a word I wish described me. Hard of hearing, yes. Skinny, no.
(Yes, I know the contemporary meaning of 'the real skinny'. ;-) )

Hahaha! Who's the wise guy who attached the WAV file to this page?
-- Anonymous, May 13, 2000
(Mat 11:15 KJV) "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear."
-- Anonymous, May 13, 2000
Mark H.:I wish I had an ear that can hear (better). Fortunately, it's my eyesight which I need to really 'hear' the Word.

The WAV. file is a humorous addition to this thread. Thanks, John, for alerting us to it.

Mark H.I should correct my post above:
I t is not my eyes which I need to 'hear' the words God intends ~ it is spiritual discernment.
