Match Number 18
2 February 1997, Leicester at SJP, 4-3. Alan Shearer's finest 15 minutes in a Toon shirt. What can't be said about this one? 1-0 ahead courtesy of Robbie Elliott at half time, and then 6 mad goals in the second half. Matt Elliott scored against us on his debut, Claridge and Heskey each added one to make it look a bit dodgy with 13 mins to go. Shearer suddenly went mad and scored a magnificent hattrick including the hardest strike of a free kick ever seen (in the back of the net before Keller even saw it) and a last second cut-back across the face of goal by Rob Lee for Al to tap in from 6 inches (this thanks to time added on due to Lennon wasting time). Truly awesome.

My lads are good at "playing away" (cue link to te affairs thread)Now then Softie, I believe most, if not all, of the Racers wins have been away games.... not sure if I like the proposal for home advantage :)

Lost 4:1, and Shearer still scored a hatrick for us?!? Shame the rest of the team didn't turn up. The bright start to the season is slipping away.

I was just screaming at the linesman how the ref had cost me my ***** job when all of a sudden we knock in 5 away from home and end our miserable run of three defeats on the trot! Will be in to see the chairman tomorrow about a #50k+ a week pay deal.
