What movies do you want to see?greenspun.com : LUSENET : digital ink : One Thread |
What movies (current, upcoming, or stuff you missed when it originally came out) do you want to see?My list: American Psycho, Black and White, Boys Don't Cry (I think it's coming out on video soon?), The Cider House Rules, Wonder Boys, and American Beauty (again).

28 Days, American Beauty, Final Destination, The Skulls, and a few others that I can't think of right now
-- Anonymous, April 18, 2000
I weirdly want to see 28 Days as well. Add that to The Insider, American Psycho, High Fidelity, Final Destination (shut up!), Boy Don't Cry (I think it comes out on video next week), and Me Myself I.
-- Anonymous, April 18, 2000
All of the ones that Katie said minus American Psycho. I haven't seen Boys Don't Cry yet, but I was so happy that Hilary Swank won the Oscar for it. I remember her in Karate Kid Part III, and it was then that I knew she had talent. Ok, maybe not then, but yeah, I was happy she won.

I saw American Psycho last week and it was pretty cool...twisted and campy at the same time. I am such a freak that last month I saw Boys Don't Cry three times in two days...that's how great it was:) Hilary Swank was incredibly deserving of that oscar. Call me cheesy, but I want to see Where The Heart Is, because I love anything that Joan Cusack or Stockard Channing is in. The book was pretty good too.

American Psycho was great. I'd love to see it again. There's a part involving Huey Lewis & the News (that annoying 80s group) and an ax that had me laughing my arse off. I'm also desperate for American Beauty to be released on video so I can buy it and watch it over and over and over again. Other than that, I'm interested in seeing Black & White, Boys Don't Cry (which isn't in a theater anywhere near me!), Ready to Rumble, The Beach (call me crazy, but I have this sick obsession with DiCaprio films), Four Rooms, and a couple more that I can't think of right now.

American Psycho, Mission Impossible II, Gone in 60 Seconds, Shaft (!!), High Fidelity, Final Destination-The Skulls-Rules of Engagement (all again-good movies, esp. ROE)

Hmm... 28 Days, High Fidelity, that one by Tom Twyker (of RUN LOLA RUN), American Psycho looks kinda interesting, and some rentals. I really want to see the Kubrick version of Lolita because i've only seen the Dominique Swain/ Jeremy Irons version. But somehow it's always mysteriously gone from video stores whenever i want it. Well okay that's it for now.

Is it okay to wish that Stanley Kubrick would rise from the dead and create one last movie? The stuff that's out in theaters now just doesn't appeal to me. (Especially the teenybopper movies. UGH. One more Scream rip-off, and I'm going to hurt someone.) Kubrick was brilliant. (That includes Eyes Wide Shut, IMHO.)Failing that, though, Michael Mann is pretty great. (I watch Heat somewhat obsessively.) So I guess I'd like to see The Insider, since I missesd that this summer.
And Three Kings. I heard good stuff about that one-- can anyone confirm this?
(flightless)

I know you all will hit me for this one, but I haven't seen a movie in the theatre since august 1999. not because I didn't want to, but because I don't get out much. hmm..I would like to see, high fidelity, fight club, girl interrupted, cider house rules, american beauty...
I'll prolly be waiting for them to come on video. that's prolly when I'll have time! who knows though right?

(I'm in Australia, so some movies haven't come out, some aren't out on video, etc, heh.)ELECTION. It just came out on video, and I didn't see it at the movies, so I trotted down to the video place today to rent it and they don't have it yet. Bastards.
The Blair Witch Project. Again.
American Beauty. Again. And again. And again.
The Pelican Brief. Yeah, it's an old one, but right now since I'm just a godawful John Grisham fan, I'm watching all of his movies. I've gotten through the Chamber, the Client and the Rainmaker, but the Pelican Brief is being rented out or something so I have to wait.
Boys Don't Cry. If Hilary Swank (is that her name?) could beat Annette Benning, then it must be bloody good.
Uhhh...
Taxi Driver. I must rent that because Katie has convinced me it's just so darn good. Pity it's rated R and I'm four years to young to rent it.
Stand By Me. I was standing in the video store today just thinking about all these great movies I love. I saw that movie years ago and want to rent it again.
*mental note*
Toodles.

I want to see "Being John Malkovich", "Boiler Room" (Katie - do you still have a crush on Giovanni Ribisi? I do.) "Election" (although Ribisi could never compare to Matthew Broderick). There are a few old movies that I can't believe I haven't seen, and I plan to soon - those are "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "Pretty in Pink", and, most of all, "Say Anything".

"The Insider" is really good, I rented it over the weekend. Although, I must say, the woman who played Russell Crowe's wife GOT ON MY NERVES! I don't know who that woman is, but I can't stand her for some reason. The Kubrick version of "Lolita" is terrible, in my opinion. I think Adrian Lyne's version is SO much better.
If you haven't seen "Taxi Driver," rent the damn thing!
Oh yeah, I wanted to see "Being John Malkovich" and "Girl, Interrupted," too. "Malkovich" is supposed to be weird as hell, and I like weird as hell.
I'm not obsessed with old Giovanni anymore (De Niro sort of took over his position), but I still like him. I saw "Boiler Room" a few months ago, and it was pretty good. It wasn't as great as I thought it would be, but it was still good. It kind of makes me never want to invest in the stock market, though, I swear to God.

I want to see Titan A.E., the new Lord of the Rings Series, and the new Matrix that is being made. Can't wait for those to all come out.
-- Anonymous, April 19, 2000
i want to see boys don't cry and american beauty and being john malcovich. for what it's worth (not too damn much, i imagine), if she hasn't seen them yet i think katie should rent three women and days of heaven and local hero and my brilliant career and five easy pieces, but i don't know if 3 women (early robert altman) is available on video...

I want to see High Fedelity, Sleepy Hollow, Dogma and American Beauty.Boys Don't Cry came out the 18th I believe. New movies mostly come out on Tuesday
At videoeta you can find out what is out and what will be out.
I stopped using movies-on-video after I walked into a rental place and asked for American Beauty ohhh four months before it was expected out. :)

I really want to see Girl, Interrupted again, that movie was brilliant. Hmm... and House of Mirth, Holy Smoke, Scream 3, South Park, Bigger Longer + Uncut (I'm not sure if I should be ashamed of loving that movie), and that new romantic comedy with David Duchovny in it. But, y'know, only because it has David Duchovny in it. Meep.

This is bizarre. I just wrote a whole journal entry about the subject of movies (go to http://www.envy.nu/Holly if you wanna read the whole thing). Well, I saw High Fidelity on Sunday, and that was pretty good. I wanna see that movie, Final Destination. I saw a commercial for it, featuring "actual audience reactions," and I really bought into the whole thing. They were acting quite frightened. I still want to see American Pie. And Where the Heart is. I guess that's all. I'm not much of a movie go-er.

Girl Interupted,Boys Don't Cry,
Toy Story 2 (seen it, wants to see it again),
American Beauty (ditto),
Austin Powers I and II. (I fell asleep through the first one when I rented it, and didn't finish the rest. I don't know - they just seem really stupid... but I'd still like to see them in the theatre),
The Buena Vista Social Club.
-- Anonymous, April 19, 2000
Being John Malkovich and Girl Interrupted. I kind of want to see American Beauty again, but only kind of (I'm English and it's only just come out over here, so I only saw it a couple of weeks ago). I don't think you can watch it again too immediately, if you see what I mean.Maybe High Fidelity, but maybe not. I loved the book so much that I'm sure the film will be a disappointment.
-- Anonymous, April 19, 2000
America Psycho and American Beauty... I haven't seen it yet, everyone has. I feel so left out.
-- Anonymous, April 19, 2000
There was this movie duo - Run, Lola, Run and Girl, Interrupted - at a local cinema the other day. I would have loved to catch those because they're both movies I missed, but wanted to see.I want to see a longer version of Dune but I doubt that'll ever happen (given my current location).
-- Anonymous, April 20, 2000
ok I havn't been to the movies in so long so I want to see... -Being John Malcovich I love Spike Jones it looks so amazing. -Girl, Interrupted because I can't imagine how they made that book into an even remotley interesting movie. -High Fidelity I don't have to explain. -American Psycho isn't this based on a novel written in the 90s? -Boys Don't Cry -Run Lola Run I probably forgot someMy favorite movie of all time is Taxi Driver.. then A Clockwork Orange but Taxi Driver is first. oh Have you seen Life is Beautiful? absolutley great flick.
-- Anonymous, April 20, 2000
Run Lola Run is my favorite movie. I want to see The Virgin Suicides, the book was absolutely breathtaking, and Kirsten Dunst is playing my favorite character...I could die.
-- Anonymous, April 20, 2000
I saw 28 Days last night. It's a surprisingly good and entertaining movie (I thought.) I'd recommend it highly.
-- Anonymous, April 20, 2000
Clerks (I've attempted about 3 times, actually HAD it on, playing and everything, but I was always talking to someone while it was playing), Dogma, and The Avengers again, because I was tired the first time I saw it, and I REALLY don't recommend seeing that movie if you're not fully awake.
-- Anonymous, April 21, 2000
My list of movies to rent is pretty long, but it includes: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Three Kings (supposed to be one of the best films of 1999), Dogma, Full Metal Jacket, Dark City, Coming Home, Rear Window, Boys Don't Cry, and a ton more.I haven't seen The Sixth Sense, Being John Malkovich, or American Beauty yet, but I have already read those scripts.
Love and Basketball and Frequency look good, and I want to see High Fidelity just 'cause I like Jack Black.
I'm also interested in the Lord of the Rings series and (I hate to admit it) Grease 3 and the Blair Witch Project sequel.
-- Anonymous, April 22, 2000
i want to see gladiator, and american psycho. gladiator because i am fascinated with ancient rome stuff (though i doubt there's going to be a lot of accuracy, like casual and socially accepted homosexuality), and american psycho because i read the book.
-- Anonymous, April 22, 2000
I want to see: All the Star Wars films, (haven't seen ANY of them!), the black and white version of Lolita again, Leon with a young Natalie Portman, American Beauty, American Psycho, Boys Don't Cry, The Cider House Rules, The Other Sister, and SLC PUNK! I think that's about it for this month, Oh wait, Labrynith!! The one with David Bowie as the goblin king, yeah baby!
-- Anonymous, April 22, 2000
I agree with katie 110% Lyne's Lolita was definitely a great film. Boys don't cry is also an excellent film. I do have to say it was a very Heavy film to take. I probably won't watch it again because of this, but it is an excellent film and Swank completely deserved her oscar.
-- Anonymous, May 03, 2000
I want to see The Virgin Suicides--I hear it's depressing, but interesting--and Boys Don't Cry.
-- Anonymous, May 15, 2000
I have to see Gladiator again. I mean absolutely have to. I don't usually go for mindless violence, but I'll make an exception for Braveheart and Gladiator. Fucking awesome if you ask me. I mean, come on - the part where he's on the horse and the Djimon Hondsou character just casually tosses him that sword, and he just... catches it like that?? Jeez... man I wish some of the guys around here could do stuff like that! Of course, I also wish they all looked like Russel Crowe, but still....Okay, I just realized how shallow this all sounds... Oh well =D
