WHERE CAN I BUY SILVER CDs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have been using CD-RW discs for creating my home made VCDs.I am able to play my VCDs in my PIONEER-525 DVD player. But I am unable to play the same VCDs in Panasonic and Sony DVD players, eventhough they they are VCD compliant. I was told that If I burn my VCDs with Silver CDs I would be able to play in other DVD players. I am unable to find them. The commercially made VCDs play in other DVD players. Please tell me, where I can find the Silver CDs?

First, you do not have to use CD-RW for the Pioneer 525 because it reads CD-Rs fine. Second, save yourself some effort and stop thinking if you author with those silver CDs they will play on Panasonic, etc.: they still WILL NOT. Only recent Pioneer and Philips DVD set- tops as of this point (and some Chinese and Korean items like Konka and Apex) recognize CD-Rs with any level of reliability. The rest of the high brands simply do not care.

You can get the silver CDR's at www.getcdrs.com. They however will only work in philips/magnavox and pioneer DVD players. The other brands cannot read cdr's. I use the silver CD's because the Mitsui brand has a life of 60 years. If you want to be able to play them 60 years from now they are worth it. They cost $1.43 each.

Try your local compusa or bestbuy. You can get Memorex 80 minute silver cdr's in a 10 pack with jewel cases for between $10 and $20.

I think your confused, your getting mixed up with colour and how they are made, when you say "silver" you mean a cd which has been pressed in a factory, changing the colour of a cdr makes no difference as to how it will work on a dvd player, pressed c.ds (they are silver on the bottom) are made in a factory so there is no chance of you making them you have to buy them with films already on :-)

Silver on Silver cdr's still won't work if it can't read a cdr to began with. A silver on Silver cdr will last longer though. They have them at fry's electronics for $30.00 usd for 50pak 80 minute. And yes you can record on them, and they almost look like originals. No confusion.
