I am treating my sheep for coccidiosis using Corid 9%. But am almost out and my vet can't get it from her supplier as apparently one of the components is no longer being manufactured. Does anyone know anyplace that still has some in stock ? Are there any other treatments I could try in lieu of finding Corid? Kate NY

We called around and found out that they would not be shipping until May. We use corid also, and do have enough for the year. Pipestone Vet Catalog carries Suflaquioxiline 20%, though their catalog only shows it in a gallon container they will break it down into quarts or pints for you if you ask. It is only used at 2cc per 50 pounds, very economical and works great. Sulfa drugs are a dime a dozen, you could also use Sulmet. We order our drugs through Jeffers 1800- Jeffers you can visit Pipestone on pipevet.com Vicki

Kate, try the big feed animal supply stores, we have Atwoods and Orschliens, I think there is TSC too. My local feedstore here in Kansas has it too. So you might try your neighborhood feed stores. I can send you some too. Valley Vet Supply at www.valleyvet.com has it too. They also have staff vets who have other meds for coccidiosis, you can call 1-800-468-0059. karen

I have almost no experience with sheep, but have raised hogs for the last 2 years. We too are afflicted with Cocci and find that no drug works to rid the pigs of the scours. Only weaning them stops the squirts. My reason for replying is that we have found the best wayto deal with cocci is to stop it before it starts. We do this by using a 20 lb. propane bottle and weed torch and actually flame the wire flooring and farrowing crates. The cocci "egg" is encapsulated by a tough coating that is impervious to disinfectants and the flame is the only means of killing it. I have heard that strong bleach - the stuff used on dairies will kill the bug as well but have never tried this. Don't know if this info will help you. Your sheep may not be confined to a stall that harbors the disease as our hogs are. Good luck getting rid of it. Cocci is a pain!
