His childhood was really good and bad. His real mother died when he was really young, and his dad left the family before poe was even born. He was soon adopted by allan. Allan spoiled poe and was very proud of him. i'm not giving the best info about his childhood, but if you got to the livrary and check out a book by Jeffery Meyers, its really helpful! Its objective, so it should help your search. Hope i helped at least a little.
