Did Poe earn any awards throughout his career for his works?

Yes, Poe won a short story contest in 1833, and two years later he became a literary critic for a magazine. He also became nationally famous on the publication of his poem The Raven in 1845.

Yeah, I agree with Jennifer's answer and i would just like to add that he also would have won the poetry prize in that same contest in 1833 for his poem, The Coliseum, except the judges didn't think it would be fair to award both prizes to the same author =) Later,Lexi

Well, beside the fact that Poe received awards, there is an award out there named after Poe. It is called, I believe, "The Edgar" and it is awarded for exceptional writing in the mystery genre.

Check out the scar on Poe's face for a fist fight over Colliseum's loss to the poem of the SPONSOR of the contest. Poe had a couple of explanations for that scar, including how he had "won" the fist fight.

The Edgar Allan Poe Society was formed by a group of people. I would say that is a pretty big honor.
