The 14th Episcopal District is once again in a politically precarious position due to the recent passage of Sharia Law in the Northern Nigerian city of Kaduna. Sharia Law represents de facto Islamic law governing civil society. During the month of March over 1,000 people have died in Nigeria over sectarian fighting and disagreements over Sharia's application to Christians. The violence has now spread to the cities of Ada, Onitsha, Port Harcourt and the southern city of Ife. The northern section of Nigeria is predominantly Muslim [Hausa]while the southern section is predominantly Christian [Yoruba]. The key issue is how to minimize the carnage and protect the rights of religious and ethnic minorities in the North. The absence of discussion about Sharia and the future of Nigerian Christians represents a tragic choice for the AME Episcopacy. This country was devasted by a civil war during 1967-70 [Biafra War] and unless cooler heads prevail history will clearly repeat itself.

i disagree. the key question is not how to stop the carnage. the question is are we willing to die for our position in CHRIST as our dear brothers and sisters in other parts of the world. the persecution of Christians has always been a fact. it was both prophesied and spoken of in the scriptures. can we ever forget that JESUS died for our sins? are we not willing to die as our contribution to the Kingdom of GOD. let's all be martyrs.
