You Hate to See the "Good Guys" Leavegreenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread |
On a lighter note.....it was sad to see a magnificant QB like Dan Marino leave the NFL today without knowing the joys of a Super Bowl.Wish he could have gone out like Elway.
Just goes to show you.....not all the good guys ride off into the sunset.
Best wishes Dan!! And thanks for some great Sunday afternoons!!

Scott......Thanks for saying what needed to be said.
Geez......lighten up Mark.

But his number 13 will continue to be worn by a record breaker - Curt Warner - of my beloved St. Louis Rams, who tied Marino's TD record this year. Here in Fort Lauderdale, I hear a lot about Marino, and I would have liked to have seen him leave with a ring (but not this year)- but there are a lot of other greats that never tasted that final victory of the football season. Marino is a class act on and off of the field. He would make an excellent Christian.BTW, GO RAMS!! And with baseball season upon us ---- GO REDS!!!! Jr is back in town!

Scott,Anyone who submits themselves fully to the Potter's Hands will become an excellent Christian. Sometimes the worst off are those who were "good" before submitting.
All have sinned and fallen short.

Mark W,I wasn't making a theological statement. All I meant was that Marino already is doing things for others, has a heart for giving and handles people pretty well. He, as well as everybody in creation would make a pretty good Christian. But that was not my point. After all, Danny did start this thread by saying "On a lighter note." I was being light.

Danny, Scott,If I missed Scott's point "bending the truth" for the sake of being "light", then someone else would likely do the same. Thus, what I said needed to be said.
If someone was under the impression that we can merit salvation, then Scott's words would unintentionally reinforce that notion. Whether the only thread was started with the words "on a lighter note" or not.

Mark,In what way did I bend the truth? All I said was Marino was a nice guy and that he would make a good Christian. I in no way implied that his good works merited salvation - no way whatsoever. If I implied anything it is that I wish he were a Christian. He is not, as far as I know, but I still think he would make a good one - as any man or woman would if they would fully submit to Christ, but that does not mean that I think all mankind is saved.
GO REDS!!!!

Scott, I guess you and I are gonna hafta go a few rounds this season. We can't be having those sissyboys in Cincy getting in the way of the first Cardinal World Series in a while.
-- Anonymous, March 15, 2000
Sam,I thought all the Cardinals were in Rome. Sissyboys huh?
Seriously, I have heard some speculation that the NL Central will have 900+ home runs because Big Mac, Sosa, and the Reds have added Jr and Dante Bischete(sp?) to the list of big hitters. Dmitri Young is no slouch either - sissyboys huh?
I haven't paid much attention to other teams during the off-season, but the Reds were hot last year and have done nothing but improve themselves. Deion Sanders is back for Cinci as a lead-off hitter. It's going to be a fun season.
I had the privelege of watching my Rams win the SUperbowl this year and xpect to see my Reds win the series. The nice thing is, I live in Fort Lauderdale and Marlin tickets are easy to come by and cheap. When the Reds visit I should be sitting pretty (well, at least very happy. Pretty may be overstating things a bit).
