rabbits by mail

Does anyone know if I can get rabbits shipped to me? Fairly cheep? I'm stuck in the city (at least I have a half acre) and rabbits are about the only animals I can raise. I'm looking for any breed of meat rabbit and would prefer ones that have been garden fed, as I have a large garden. I've looked at all of the local fairs and they won't sell rabbits live! As far as I know there aren't any local breeders (other than 4H groups) that I can get a hold of. The 4H groups that I can get a hold of all sell dwarfs! If you want to sell me a rabbit I'm looking for 1 buck and 2 does. Thanks!

There has to be some breeders local.Where do you live? The local 4-h club or fairs should be able to hook you up with a local breed club, and from there they will be able to connect you with the right people.Do you have a local "free paper " that list free or cheap local things people have for sale? If so put a wanted add in it.How about a cooperative extension ? they should be able to help.

I would think that being mailed would be very hard on rabbits. Try checking out the closest feed stores. They always seem to know who's raising what and who's willing to sell. Also try the Humane Society if you're not looking for show rabbits. People give them up, too. If you can wait until after Easter you'll probably be able to find lots of them there, unfortunately.

Rabbits can be shiped by mail ,infact breeders going to national shows ship there rabbits all the time. most of the top breeders will ship there rabbits any were but it is easyer and cheaper to get your rabbits local. There must be a ARBA show near you? contact them and see, they will also be able to give you names of breeders in your area, you can feed them garden produce but only in small portions [start slowly]but you should still feed some pellet food as it has vitamens and fiber in it which help them stay healthy

Thanks for the info! I do know about a couple of feed stores and it is almost Easter so I can look at the Humane Society. By the way I live in Vancouver, WA. That is in the US, not Canada! Fourth largest city in Washington state, and fairly ok for a city. But it it still a city and the city rules about livestock are just about to drive me out of my mind!

Hi, I used to live near Vancouver, my kids still do. I know there are a lot of rabbit breeders there. I get French Lop rabbits from a gal in Rainer, Or. If the feed stores have a bulletin board, post a WANTED notice. Go to the fair and take down names, of course thats not till Aug.. I got smart 27 years ago and got out of there. If I can be of any help e-mail me privatly.Doris in Idaho

Doris, I can't get to your site, but thanks. You were right to get out of here. Vancouver is going through a major growth spurt and has almost reached Camas! It is getting to the point where I can't hardly go looking for farms close by anymore. We are looking up the Gorge (but not in the Gorge act) for our farm, but we expect to be here a while.

Where do you live? I live in KY, and have five, five-week-old, purebred red satin rabbits for sale and you're welcome to them. Kelly
