when the going gets tough, kids just want to quit. i went through it several times. i remember how it feels to just want to stop doing whatever you are doing. the parents have to try to help their child recognize what they are feeling. if little susie wants to quit because it is too hard, mommy and daddy need to tell her to stick it out a little bit longer, work a little bit harder, and we'll decide later. if it becomes easier, the child will want to stay with it longer. but the child has to try. if s/he doesn't, then it will never become easier and the child will not learn to work. he or she will begin to always give up when it is too hard, and when they can't give up, they won't know what to do. sorry, i can't help with any journals though.
