Does anyone have experience with a ram breaking off a horn? Ours did, and after finally cornering him the next day and clipping the remaining skin holding the horn, he seems much better, but what should I expect now? Will new horn grow? We treated the raw place with some wound solution our vet had given us, and he seems much better, at least isn't bleeding anymore, and is eating,drinking, etc. Do I need to do anything else with that area on his skull, or will it eventually heal over? Poor thing, it appeared to be very painful while the horn was still attached, flopping around and hitting the wound, and yet now seems fine. I'm sure I gained a few more grey hairs before the ordeal was over! Jan

99% of the time it wiil just scab over and heal up fine the cool temps help a lot but when i was akid my dad had a barbedoe ram and he broke one off and it was very hot (arkansas in late july) and it did not heal well but he grew a nub 1 inch or so long before it healed all the way he lived 6 or 7 years after so yours will be fine p.s ihave one now who 3 years ago knoked over 250 gallan propane tank and did not evan blink

Oh, my---I am glad that he will have a chance to heal before the flies get bad. I had a lamb that died of screw worms when I was a kid. Not a pretty sight. They like to lay their eggs in wounds.

Hi. I think Hicks are stupid. Don't you have something better to do than worry about your Ram's broken horn. It is not like Jesus coming back or anything. Don't worry about it. Go square dancing or whatever hick activities you enjoy.
