OK. I have searched, downloaded, pulled my hair out and I still can't figure this one out.

Last night I captured a video from my friends Cannon XL-1 through my Rainbow Runner (S-series I beleive) Mystique combo (older, but free to me). I was able to play it back on that computer and my second computer, but here at work (which is what the video was for) I can not view it.

-Mplayer can't get the correct codec/decoder. -I have downloaded Matrox presets for Premiere (I have 5.1). -I tried Xing, Quicktime, and other players. Quicktime opened it but the video was slow and the audio was normal. -The video size is 220MB.

I am at a loss. I can go home and work with it, but I was hoping to have something today (Friday).

My question (if you have not already surmised) is how can I play this MJPEG encoded AVI on any other system than the one I captured it on.

Well, try to encode this into a mpeg file rather than the original raw video format (or avi) since avi file could be created in many different formats depending the setting at which you start to capture the video clips. Therefore, you can only play that avi file at the computer that you've created the file or maybe on other computers that might has the same codec for your avi file. Use any utility such as avi2mpg.exe , Xing, Adobe Premiere etc... to convert your avi to mpeg format and you don't have to worry about this problem. Warning: the process converting an avi to mpeg is lengthly and resource intensive let machine runs overnight.

I have the same card as you (combo old Matrox Mystique 220 and Rainbow Runner). I have been using those cards for almost two years, and when I wanted to see avi film captured by RR on another computer, I was forced to install software mjpeg codec. There are many of them, the best way is to look in internet. Regards

You stumbled onto one limitation of MJPEG here. MJPEG codec is for me one of the best in terms of trade-offs between image quality and required HDD space. I use a Matrox Marvel G200, and I learned early that MJPEG is partly a hardware-assisted codec (unlike some others, like Intel Indeo, which are not and therefore .AVIs made with it can freely be viewed on PCs other than the one used to capture it) which means among other things that the PC you intend to play that MJPEG- coded avi in should have essentially the same hardware as the one that was used to capture it with. Your bets will be: capture using some other codec, or convert to MPEG-1.

35. How can I playback clips encoded with the Matrox MJPEG codec on systems that do not have the Matrox capture hardware? (top)

You can do this with one of the following methods:

Capture with our MJPEG codec or any other codec and convert to MPEG format using an avi-mpeg software converter.

Capture with our MJPEG codec and use a 3rd party software MJPEG codec to play it on a system without our hardware. This method however comes with no technical support from us if you have any problems.
