Enerhodar (Zaporizhzhya Region), 5th February: The daily electricity output of Ukraine will be reduced by 25mkilowatt- hours on Sunday [6th February].
The problem is that the No 5 power unit of the Zaporizhzhyanuclear power plant, the biggest in Europe, will be disconnected from the power network on Saturday night. Instruments for the regulation of safety control will be tested at the power unit on that day. This is part of the work for analysing in detail the degree of safety of the power unit, which is being done by specialists of the nuclear plant together with their colleagues from the US Scientech firm. The power unit will again be connected to the power network at 0500 hours in the morning on Monday [7th February]. Specialistsof the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which accounted this year for about 25 per cent of Ukrainian electricity output, intend to conduct tests on days when energy consumption is thesmallest, i.e. days-off.
