Siberians Facing Winter Without Heat or Foodgreenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread |
ZAKHAMENSK, Eastern Siberia - It was bad
enough when they were just hungry. Now
Polina Abramova and her family suffer from
the cold as well - trying to survive a
Siberian winter in an apartment without heat.
Of the 14,600 people in Zakhamensk, a town
in the republic of Buryatia near the
Mongolian border, 9,000 have lost heat for
rest of the winter after the central heating
system went haywire Jan. 8. The accident sent
a surge of steam through the pipes, bursting
radiators and cutting off heat and, in some
cases, electricity.St. Petersburg Times

thanks spider for sharing. this is just heartbreaking. we should all be praying for these folks and for many people in russia.josh mcdowell's ministry does some wonderful things in russia--air lifting very economical packages to get children or families through the winter. it is a good organization that is part of campus crusade for christ.

We can't do much from this far, except to pray...

this is Bullsh*t pure and simple. If they are starving it is only because their government is withholding food and fuel to prepare for war with us. the more of them that die first, the better off for us!
