I can't get the script to work and when I test it in Telnet it has the following message: Can you please help me?

Illegal character \015 (carriage return) at smart.cfg line 22. (Maybe you didn't strip carriage returns after a network transfer?)

The problem is almost certainly your editor. You need to use either a simple taxt editor like notepad in windows or, preferably an editor made especially for UNIX/LINUX. There are numerous freeware/shareware programmer's editors available. One good one is PFE32. You can 'save in UNIX format'. Do a search and download it. It is 'freeware'.
