Kiev, 29th January: Electric energy output is being decreased atthe Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in order to implement preventive measures, UNIAN learnt at the information centre of the Ukrainian State Nuclear Contol Administration.
In the early hours of 29th January the output of the No 4generating set at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was decreased to 80 per cent for almost six hours in order to implement preventive measures in the cooling system of the turbine department. After the work was completed, the output of the generating set was brought back to standard level.
It is planned that, in agreement with the dispatcher service of the country's energy system, the output of the No 3 generating set of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant will be decreased to 60 per cent from 2300 [2100 gmt] on 29th January till 0500 [0300gmt on 30th January]. The planned output decrease is alsorelated to the implementation of preventive measures in theturbine unit.

Somewhere I read that if the Ukraine had anymore outages or cutbacks their whole grid was going to collapse because they were on the verge anyway. But they are masters at cobbling things together with bear skins and stone knives (Spock said that on an episode when he had to work with primitive tools). Even so, I'll bet they're sweating it.The Ukraine is a country of over 50,000,000 people teetering on the edge (AND OF COURSE y2K had nothing to do with it, I have to put that disclaimer in there or risk being discredited by the you know what).
