Well, I Just Got Bit By the Bug, and I'm None Too Pleased

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Here's my first experience with the bug. This month, when my ISP Nexnet/FirstVa went to take my monthly charges out of my account, they had a software glitch and took it out multiple times, then put it back multiple times, except for the fact that they ended up taking it out one two many times. The result? 3 bounced check charges totaling $87, plus the extra $15.95 that they took out.

Of course, they wrote to everyone apologizing for the software glitch, but that doesn't give me back my $87 bucks in bounced check charges.

Put in a call to their billing department. The guy there has to "see" if his boss wants to re-imburse me for the charges. Sure hope he does, because it's going to be pretty tough replacing that money before I get paid again, meanwhile the little checks that bounced (for rinky-dink amounts like $9.00, are going to keep going boing-boing-boing if someone puts them through again.) Argh!!!

CD,

It is my understanding that if a company screws up automatic withdrawls they are responsible for any charges that result from their mistake.

Talk to your bank, raise hell.

If they don't fix it right away.. tell that you are going to make a compliant to the State Corporation Commission... works nearly everytime as they regulate all corporations that due business in VA and open cases on all complains..most corporations don't like dealing with them cause they do a lot of digging.... almost like having a free lawyer If you need more information on this e-mail me and I'll locate a link for their toll-free # hd5574

Now you know how I feel. All I hear (and I heard it again on the news) is y2k hype, y2k hype and how it is all over. Granted things are better than we've expected, but boy, I sure had to do a lot of work down here on the computers for something that is nothing more than hype. Makes me sick.

I still have a few glitches poping up, despite working on this thing on and off over the period of 4-5 years. Our A/R statements were dropping credits and a glitch in another system popped up this week. Both were y2k related.

It's a bump in the road until something happens and it affects you. Never was a bump in the road for me.

--CD,

They suck beyond reason. I got lied to and screwed by them about 2 years ago for a comparable thing, cost me almost 200, and they never paid me back. Furthermore, they screwed me outta 300 in an extra payment, which I provided documentation to prove their error, and they still refused! Best thing to do with those unethical bloodsuckers is CLOSE that account, then refuse auto-deduct EVER on your new account. It's a pain, but they will screw you again otherwise. Least, that has been my 5 year experience with them.

Wells Fargo "bit" me and since I was charged $12.00 for a stop payment on a check that they tried to go ahead and apply to my account after they had said they hadn't gotten it, and which I replaced...reimbursed me the $12.00. It was an unholy mess for some three weeks but I did get the $12.00 back. Give it a try!

Welcome to the new and 'improved' world of digital money. My grandchildren will look at cash with the same blank stare that my son had on his face when he discovered our album collection boxed in the garage......
