Y2K bug inflicting woes for communications
By CHRISTIE APPELHANZ The Capital-Journal
Shawnee County hasn't exterminated the Y2K bug.
Bill Singer, Emergency Communications Center director, will ask the Shawnee County Commission on Thursday to solicit proposals on a new Computer Aided Dispatch system because the current equipment isn't Y2K compliant.
The system assists dispatchers by telling them when an officer is on a call and when he or she is clear and can take another call. It also reminds dispatchers to check back with officers at regular intervals, an important feature when officers are responding to high-risk calls, such as domestic disputes.
The commission will meet at 9 a.m. on Thursday in room B-11 of the Shawnee County Courthouse. The public is invited to attend. (snip)
