It's been a few weeks since the big, collective whew! but I'm still curious. So, what did you horde in case of Y2K disaster?

My friend Fil and I went to K-Mart in Penn Station, of all places, on New Year's Eve, as a last minute just-in-case gesture. It was a zoo, but that was not necessarily related to Y2K.

She bought 2 cans of tuna and a gallon of water.

I bought 4 cans of tuna, a box of crackers, 4 cans of soup, oreos, mini banana bread loaves, a jar of chocolate silk peanut butter and cheese crackers with peanut butter. The night before, I bought two gallons of water and a mini mag lite.

I think it was just an opportunity for me to buy some snacky-things, as I haven't had any at home since moving into a hotel for women, where I eat most meals in the dining room. I have no idea what to do with all the tuna, I guess it was the only canned meat I could imagine eating.

the ONE time I was prepared...

An extra 6-pack of Coke, a pound of fudge, and a 5-gallon bottle of water. Really, what else do you need?

Um, nothing. My husband and I can barely remember to go to the grocery store during the best of times. Good thing we already buy the 24 pack of toilet paper.

i got some extra TP and a few cans of black eyed peas (which were then eaten for good luck), and 2 jugs of water. my mom-in-law hid a bunch of stuff from her husband, and snuck it into our car: 50 lbs of dog food, 5 lbs of pinto beans (and another 5 lbs showed up last weekend), 10 lbs of rice, more TP and a promise that i'd fill up the gas tanks and get another jug of water. i did. we've still got a buttload of pinto beans, if anyone's interested.

Two packs of cigarettes and extra Coke. I won't go without my super- sugary carbonated caffeine source, Y2K or no Y2K.

I made sure we had plenty of big marshmallows for toasting, in case the power went out and we had to have a fire in the fireplace for a few days. And we loaded both guns with ammo and posted ourselves by the doors, him in the front, me in the back, so we could shoot looters before they got any of our stuff.

Okay, we didn't actually do the gun thing, but we did joke about doing it. I had also considered taking a little money out of the bank, just in case, but when the time came, we had less than $100 in the account anyway, so I didn't bother. We didn't do any actual preparing, and felt fine about it until about 10:00 p.m. New Year's Eve. That's when I started thinking about all the what if's, and prepared to give myself several swift kicks in the ass if we got stuck in an emergency situation without provisions. We breathed a big sigh of relief once the whole world had welcomed the New Year and nothing major happened.

We got some 2 liters of soda, chips, ice, a bottle of vodka, some gin, a 24 of beer... Oh, wait that was for the party we had. I just figured that if we just continued to drink we'd never notice we were hungry and cold

Oh, I forgot...two packs of big red, in case of Y2Krudmouth, 4 boxes of wet wipes and 2 deodorants, so I could stand myself in the event of no running water and baby powder, I know not why. I blame it on panic.

I also read the Y2K discussion board on this server and followed some of their freaky links.

What can I say, I know a lot of lazy programmers and had little or no faith in the system.
