Last night, channel 9 news ran a series of teasers about how they had investigated, and were going to explain why it is that gasoline prices are skyrocketing.

When the segment finally aired, it consisted of them asking a half dozen people filling their tanks how they liked the new higher prices. Surprisingly, none of them said that they liked it at all. In the final few seconds of the segment, the investigative reporter spilled the beans. They'd done their research, and found out the reason that gas stations are charging more money for gasoline.

The reason? Brace yourself. They are charging more because their suppliers are charging *them* more!

There's no news like no news...

Amazing what passes for reporting sometimes, isn't it? Last fall, one local news channel's 'lead' story was all about "what fashionable Iowan are wearing to football tailgating parties this year" - followed immediately by a special segment on the recent opening of a large sports clothing store here in town where you can buy all those things fashionable Iowans are wearing to tailgating parties. Then at the break - you guessed it - a commercial spot for the recently opened store targetting Iowans who want to be no less than fashionable at tailgating parties...

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

I think the media folk in general know how to investigate and dig for facts. Look at the Cuban boy story. The way they've researched and covered that story, there's a glut of info, I'm sure.

Of course, their are some bubble-heads out there that I swear cannot comprehend what they're reading from their teleprompters. They have straight teeth, nice hair, a beautiful voice, nice to watch.

Edward Murrow is probably rolling over in his grave right now.

"skyrocketing" is a pretty strong term. What kind of at-the-pump increases are you talking about? The UK prices haven't risen yet, but then we trail the USA in just about everything. :)
