The Associated Press
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The White River, already suffering from industrial contamination that has killed more than 100,000 fish, was threatened again Tuesday, this time by an influx of partially treated sewage.
Department of Public Works officials said a transformer failure idled a pumping station at the city's Belmont Treatment Plant, sending about 900,000 gallons of partially treated sewage into the river.
Another 5,000 gallons flowed into Eagle Creek, while about 45,000 gallons pooled on the ground near the pumping station, said Greta Hawzermale, the department's director.
The spill, which began about 2:45 a.m., doesn't pose a serious threat to the river's aquatic life, she said. She said the spill poses less of an environmental hazard than the combined sewer overflows that occur during heavy summer rains.
As a precaution, the city will test the river for several days to make sure the spill doesn't impact the river. The Belmont station, located on Indianapolis' south side, processes up to 150 million gallons a day. "This represents less than one percent of what goes through on a daily basis," Hawzermale said.
Industrial pollution believed linked to an Anderson auto parts plant killed fish along a 50-mile stretch of the river last month.

i don't know what religious cult you belong to but my true salvation does not come from "how much i give away"! sounds a bit politically correct to me. and it isn't in my bible. i would assume you keep to those standards that you set for others--you didn't prep but i assume that you already "give away" a significant portion of your net worth to others as well?are we talking 5 million gallons of untreated sewage dumpted into the mississippi? and that is no big deal? according to whose standards? the EPA? so if that is true, then why do various local governments go after homes that have older sewer systems that run into lakes, streams or whatever? or is this kind of a "hush hush" discharge?

Gee Jack, why am I not suprised to find out that you deal in s***?And large volumes at that.
And that you admit to it getting beyond your control on a regular basis.
Gee whiz. Whadda forum.

..."So salvage what is left of your dignity and give all of your excess provisions to your local homeless shelter or food bank, where it can be put to good use....."I get it! As someone who once *worked* for a treatment plant until you were fired for shamelessly polluting the Missouri River (and then bragging about it) you will probably be waiting at the food bank with your hand out, huh Jack?

Hi Jack, I'm not a doomer, don't have preps. And I hope thing don't get worse.By the way, where did you work and what were the dates of the wastewater facility's 5 million gallon a day releases into the Missouri River. Does the state water quality board or the EPA have a rocord of them?
Bet they'd be real interested in that information if they don't.
Associated Press thought the story important enough to put up on their regional wire. And if this is all so stupid, why are you wasting your time trying to discredit this information?

Always remember, true salvation does not come from how much you save up, BUT HOW MUCH YOU GIVE AWAY.-- Jack Wilson (Trimmer_cc@hotmail.com), January 20, 2000.
Right...and according to your post, it seems you "GAVE" more than most.
-- TM (mercier7@pdnt.com), January 20, 2000.
His point Wilson, is that another process-controlled system "may" that is "could have" might just "possibly" be the casualty of a date-related problem in control or montor circuit. Is that so completely impossible in your world or are we going to visit the troll/doomer dichotomy forever here.
Wilson -- "O.K. I see, everything is a conspiracy to cover up the fact that the Y2K bug has caused every problem in the world since 12:00 am January 1st. "
He did not say everything.
Wilson -- "I worked in the waste water industry." So, and that fact alone precludes poorly designed system vulnerable to date-change problems."
Wilson -- "A million gallons of sewage may sound like a lot but it is really not. That is about the output of a town with the population of about 7500 for 24 hours. "
I live 1/4 mile from a plant on the beautiful humboldt bay and I would be very unhappy if my system for a town of 15,000 flowed untreated into the bay for 24 hours. It would probably impact our oyster industry for weeks and cause lots of monetary damage. It is a big deal and people have a right to know if it was caused by BAD ENGINEERING.
Wilson -- "You are just another ignorant doomer who has made a complete ass out of himself to everyone around and you feel that by pointing out some possible Y2K problem you may salvage a little self-respect."
If seems to make you feel important and smart to name call here. No one invited you here. Therefore you are a much bigger jerk than this person.
Wilson -- "Sorry, son", "real world", "idiotic doomer pals", "gullible" -- patronizing creep
Wilson -- "Always remember, true salvation does not come from how much you save up, but how much you give away."
Wrong Wilson, salvation comes from humility, nor blind arrogance.
Leave if you don't have anything positive to contribute.

Does anyone find it curious why someone with Jack's POV would spend the time necessary reviewing this board just to lite on this particular thread?
-- Tom Beckner (tbeckner@xout.erols.com), January 20, 2000.
Did Jack's post get deleted?? Was IT pretending to be someone IT was not??Ray
-- Ray (ray@totacc.com), January 20, 2000.
Tom,I've found that curious too. I'm beginning to suspect a hard core doomer is playing devil's advocate in order to make the Polly contingint look strident and irrational.
Not that that would really be hard, but it would be a good way to hit back after suffering so much derision lately.
Yours truly, A dedicated reader of your posts on csy2k.
-- JIT (justintime@rightnow.net), January 20, 2000.
The Polly contingent never required any help from anybody, much less a "hard core doomer" to look mean, petty, nasty, or revengeful as they repeatedly attempt to irritate people and destroy this forum with their single-minded attacks and hacking. The Polly troll contingent (with a few notable exceptions) has successfully done that job themselves very successfully and deliberately.
They have succeeded in their desire to create their own reputation.
