A river in Melbourne's west has been given the all clear after thousands of litres of sewage spewed into it at the weekend.
The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) today lifted the alert on the Maribyrnong River after extensive testing.
"Results that have come back to date show us that the Maribyrnong River is back in good condition," a City West Water spokesman said.
The EPA warned people on Saturday not to swim or fish in the river after 38,000 litres of raw sewage were discharged into the river downstream of Cordite Avenue.
EPA Chairman Brian Robinson said more than 5 kilometres of the river was affected.
"It seems as if there has been a power failure at a pumping station and the sewage has spewed into the Maribyrnong," Robinson said.

How many gallons is that? 10,000? We have spills like that on a daily basis, especially in the wet season.
