We were forced to switch to this crappy software a year ago. While in mandatory class to learn how to use it, (duh) I was eyeballing several 2 digit date fields and with a big smirk on my face, I raised my hand to ask this question: "Excuse me, but is this program Y2K compliant?" "Why absolutely!", proclaimed the purveyer of the real estate system from hell known as "MRIS".

Right on schedule, 1st week of Jan. crash, crash, crash. SQRUN50 or something like that. Impossible to use. Two hours on the phone with tech support to get the bug fix. The bug fix arrived and made itself a cute little icon on the the desktop, for what reason? To make a long story short you have to refix and reboot every single time you want to do something productive with their "service". Also I was doing net proceeds for a Feb. 29 settlement and it won't let you input Feb. 29. It defaults back to Feb. 28 and that's that so I definately believe that businesses far and wide are going to have problems on that date as they are saying.

While none of this is earth-shattering, it's just another example of the 1000 papercuts that will collectively add up to a guillotine in the comming months.

Charli, the "death by 1,000 cuts" analogy assumes that the cuts happen all at once, not spread over months. The fact is that the analogy per se is good for what MIGHT have happened with Y2K, but so far looks like it WON'T. As you note, it is simply annoying, not show stopping.

I'm a real Estate Appraiser in Southern California and use several on- line services for research. The MLS services I access, which are formatted like BBS seem to all be doing fine, yet, I share your concerns. I still have very little confidence that they will continue to do well...but, we shall see.
